Jerry is known for his positive outlook on his job, his life, and his work ethic. Jerry is a vital part of the Austin team. Congratulations to Jerry Wilson on 50 years of great work for Austin Powder Company.
Jerry W. began his career at Austin Powder Company in LaFollette, Tennessee, on March 9, 1971. After a 2-year stint in the army followed by vocational/technical school, Jerry was “recruited” by plant manager Carl B. He joined the team at the LaFollette Mix Plant, working the night shift. After a few years, Jerry was promoted to Mix Plant foreman. As the business increased, he moved up to Night Shift superintendent with responsibility for the entire group of night-shift workers, including the garage.
In 1981, Jerry was moved to the day shift, where he continued to work until 1991 when the Mix Plant shut down. His new responsibilities were to assist the team in putting up bins, bucket elevators, and performing other fabrication tasks. For several years, he helped Austin’s locations across the USA with magazine relocations and setup. In the early 2000’s he returned to the LaFollette site on a full-time basis. He worked around the site as a foreman helping Austin re-establish the Mix Plant operation, which still operates today.
