Austin Powder has been making explosives since 1833 and we take great pride in playing a major role in the worldwide development.
In 1833 the family-owned Austin Powder Company was founded in Cleveland, Ohio and began what would become a major contribution to the development of the world. Austin Powder is still headquartered in Cleveland today with a global network of companies.
In St. Lambrecht the first industrial explosive was produced in 1873. The take-over and incorporation of the plant into the Nobel group were carried out in 1887 when technical production was upgraded to the latest state-of-the-art completing the transition to modern industrial production.
In June 2003, the paths of the two companies crossed: Austin Powder took over the plant in St. Lambrecht from the oldest Austrian explosives producer Dynamit Nobel.
An important milestone in the successful young company history of Austin Powder at the Styrian location was the building of a plant to produce emulsion explosives in 2010.
Designed and built by Austin engineers, the plant is the most innovative in terms of control and safety technology on the European market today. With a maximum output of almost 100 kg of explosives per minute, in a two-shift operation, around 14,000 tons of emulsion explosive can be produced per year.
Today we manufacture a full line of industrial explosives and accessories, and provide technical and blasting services around the world. We service customers in the quarrying, mining, construction and seismic industries.
