It all began in 1870, when Father Gallus Moser, a monastery chaplain, and Alfred Siersch, the monastery’s pharmacist, produced nitroglycerin on an experimental basis in an old charcoal-burner’s hut in the Unteralpe area near St. Lambrecht. In order not to infringe Alfred Nobel’s patents, they absorbed the nitroglycerin in wheat bran and larch moor, and later also in finely ground chalk. When their experiments were successful, the “Dynamite Factory” was founded in 1871. The financial backers were the innkeeper Christian Gragger and the gingerbread maker Leopold Diller. In this year, the first plant for the commercial production of the “white dynamite” patented by Leopold Diller was also built in the back of Schwarzenbach.
The articles of association, which were filed with the Murau District Court, are dated April 12, 1871, exactly 150 years ago this year.
Begonnen hat alles im Jahr 1870, als der Stiftskapitular Pater Gallus Moser und der Apotheker des Stiftes Alfred Siersch in einer alten Köhlerhütte im Gebiet der Unteralpe bei St. Lambrecht versuchsweise Nitroglycerin erzeugten. Um die Patente Alfred Nobels nicht zu verletzen, saugten sie das Nitroglycerin in Weizenkleie und Lärchenmoder, später dann auch in feingemahlener Kreide, auf. Als ihre Versuche erfolgreich verliefen, kam es im Jahr 1871 zur Gründung der „Dynamitfabrik“. Geldgeber waren der Wirt Christian Gragger und der Lebzelter Leopold Diller. In diesem Jahr wurde auch die erste Anlage zur gewerbsmäßigen Erzeugung des von Leopold Diller patentierten „weißen Dynamit“ im hinteren Schwarzenbach errichtet.
Der Gesellschaftsvertrag, der bei der BH Murau eingereicht wurde, ist datiert mit 12. April 1871, also genau heuer vor 150 Jahren.
