Of course, blasting is the first step to fragment the rock for further processing and Austin is proud of the role it plays in supplying products, technical support and blasting services.
Antwerp Port - Belgium
One of the largest E*STAR blasts of 2020 was performed in Antwerp Port in Belgium. Demolition of at 8,000 m2 (86,111 ft2) concrete base plate utilized 6.87 tons of explosives and 2,210 detonators. The location was flooded by 1.5 m (5 ft) of water and blasted in 9.5 seconds.
US Highway Construction
This $209 million Design-Build project is West Virginia Department of Highways' largest to date. It includes the design, grade, and drain for US 48 (Corridor H) and the US 219 Connector. The work includes 12 million cubic yards (9.17 million cubic meters) of heavy earthwork, significant rock blasting, and five bridge structures ranging up to 1,200 ft. (365 m) long and 250 ft. (76 m) tall. Austin Powder provides explosives and blasting for the prime contractor, Kokosing Construction Company Inc. Austin began blasting on the project in 2017.
E*STAR Tunnel - Norway
Norway has over 1,100 road tunnels that collectively span 800 km (497 thousand). Of these tunnels, 73 are over 3,000 m (1.9 thousand) long. Norway is excavating approximately 8 million m3 (1.05 million yd3) of rock in new road, rail and water tunnels every year. Safety and environmental issues have moved the market to electronics in almost all new highway projects, which makes E*STAR Tunnel a long-awaited upgrade for this market.
Lam Tin Site Formation Works - Hong Kong
Hong Kong's population is on the rise. To help relief traffic congestion, the Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel (TKO-LTT) tunnel is being built to get ahead of the district's future development.
